South Plains Astronomy Club

Observing Under The Dark West Texas Skies

Barbara, Robb, and Tom were on Trends and Friends to talk about safe viewing of the eclipse. You can view the segment at https://www.everythinglubbock.com/news/trends-and-friends/south-plains-astronomy-wants-the-community-to-know-how-to-enjoy-the-eclipse-with-safety-in-mind/

If at all possible, we recommend you make the trip to the eclipse path to see the glory of the full eclipse. Even at 99.99% partial isn’t enough to see the corona and other sights you’ll see at totality. For more info, see Mr Eclipse’s solar eclipses for beginners or our Eclipse 101 pdf to understand what you’ll see in the shadow path.

We start with a demonstration of the solar glasses. Unlike sunglasses, we can’t see anything through them, even with all the very bright lights of the studio. The club has safe solar glasses for sale. Contact us if you need some.
