South Plains Astronomy Club

Observing Under The Dark West Texas Skies

Public and Home School

The South Plains Astronomy Club (SPAC) has an active outreach program for kids of all ages.  Our members enjoy sharing our love of the heavens in star parties and seminars/classes.  Most of our members started as a student looking at the sky, and we hope that we’ll ignite a love of science, technology, and astronomy in the students we meet. We never know if we could give a student the spark to become the next Einstein, Dr. Jonas Salk, or Elon Musk.

SPAC can provide class sessions, star parties, and science fair appearances for your group/class/school. Our knowledgeable presenters have years of experience with all age groups and enthusiastically share our love of science and astronomy while both informing and entertaining your students.

  • Our classes can be tailored to your needs and the current TEKS standards, including activities that help explain the topics at hand.
  • The club does an average of two public star parties a month, but we also offer star parties for your class. Our star parties work best in dark skies, but school grounds often have a spot that will for our purposes.
  • We can provide an activity booth or astronomy slide show for your science fair or other activity.

Most of our outreach is in the Lubbock area, but we can travel to nearby counties with enough notice.
