Naturally, our club does a bunch of observing at public and private star parties. Here in west Texas, we learn to live with the wind and variable weather, but the wide-open spaces and dark skies make up for it. Astronomers have to consider many factors before heading out for a night of observing:
- What is the weather forecast?
- Will heavy cloud cover prevent me from seeing anything?
- What are the seeing conditions for tonight?
- Will the moon be up and bright, making it hard to see dim objects?
- What objects can I see tonight?
- Constellations (sky map)
- Planets
- Meteor Showers
- Comets
